Split Croatia
And its Beaches on the Adriatic Sea

Split Croatia is the largest Dalmatian city and the second largest city after Zagreb the Capital of Croatia. It is located on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, an extension of the Mediterranean.

It is the center of the region and the hub connecting the other towns with the adjacent Hvar Island and Brac Island. The city has a population of 200,000 inhabitants, and more than 400,000 if we consider the wider metropolitan area including the small towns.

The city of Split is considered to be the oldest in the area with about 1,700 years of age. Archaeologists consider it to be even older. This is because of the findings of the ancient Greek Colony of Aspálathos in the 6th Century BC.

Split Beaches

The beaches and coastline of Split is the pride and joy of Croatia. The Adriatic waters are in all shades of blued, depending the depth of the area, the beaches are of pure golden sand, and the atmosphere is one of relax and laid back attitude, great of a much needed vacation.

In the last decades Split Croatia has become an important destination for all neighboring countries and lately for visitors from overseas like Americans and Israelis.

Bacvice Beach

This is the most popular of Split’s Beaches. It is located just in front of Bacvice Restaurant and Nightclub complex. The beach has many facilities, like lifeguards, chair and umbrellas rentals, facilities for disabled, showers, lockers and enough parking.

It also features cafes, bars and restaurants. It also has a few nightclubs with dancing until late at nights. One more important thing is that it is located walking distance from the train station. It is an urban city beach

This beach’s claim to fame is as being the center for the game Picigin. It is an ancient traditional game involving a ball that has to be kept as long as possible in the air.

But if the game is not your cup of tea, hear for the bar, look for a cold beer and sit comfortably to watch the sea and the beach.

In 2006 Bacvice Beach was awarded a Blue Flag for the cleanliness of the water and the beach facilities.

Kasuni Beach

This beautiful and peaceful beach is located at the foot of Marjan Hill. It is rocky and narrow and the waters couldn’t be more crystalline and cool. The beach is made of pebbles and is surrounded by a pine forest.

It is much quieter than Bacvice, but also has fewer facilities. It features only a coffee shop and some toilets. It is located near downtown, so you may reach it by foot or bus.

Kastelet beach

Coming from downtown you will see this beach before reaching Kasuni. Kastelet is also a pebble beach, but it seems that the pebbles are smaller and therefore easier to walk and lie down on your towel.

This beach offers changing rooms, showers and several coffee shops besides a snack bar. It is in summary a calm and very nice beach.

Bene Beach

With the shade of the forest of Marjan, this is a great family beach. There are tennis courts, playground and picnic facilities and a café nearby. The sandy bottom of the beach makes it very popular among families with children. It is reachable by public transport or if you have your own vehicle you may parks a few minutes away.

Ovcice Beach

This beach is located after Bacvice Beach. This is a sandy beach with warm waters where you may rent chairs and umbrellas. It is one of the busiest beaches in Split, so my recommendation is getting there early to find you little corner. This beach features a coffee bar. It is a family beach, tranquil and laid back.

Offshore Croatia Beaches

For those adventurous, you may go by ferry and enjoy the other islands beaches, like one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, Zlatni Rat Beach on Brac Island.
