Biarritz France was favored by French royalty and jet setters, gaining the title of “The Queen of Beaches”.

It is located near the French border on the Bay of Biscayne an extension of the Atlantic Ocean.

The area is also part of the Basque Coast in French La Côte des Basques, which can be felt in the architecture and the food.

Home of the Biarritz Surf Festival

The area was discovered by surfers due its great crashing waves and today it is home to the annual Biarritz Surf Festival, attracting thousands of people to its shores.

The local Anglet Bayonne International airport, 3km from town is service by daily flights from Paris, Lyon and London.

The climate is mild with comfortable winters and warm summers placated by the constant breeze coming from the bay. It is a beach town, so let us visit some of the beaches.

La Grande Plage

This is the beach where people go to see and be seen. It is near the famous Hotel du Palais, built by Napoleon III in the 1850s.

This is a wide stretch of golden sands overlooking the bay and surrounded by rocks that seem to be soaring out the sea.

It includes many facilities like sun beds and umbrellas for rent and various cafes and restaurants just a stroll away.

Located in hear of the city it is world famous for its annual Biarritz Surf Festival hosted at this beach every July.

Miramar Plage

This crescent form sandy beach is surrounded by cliffs covered with lush vegetation and gardens. It is located north of the town of Biarritz.

You go down through a cliff top way leading to Pointe St Martin lighthouse from where you’ll have magnificent views.

This beach features a lifeguard and that’s about it. You will have to come prepared with food and drinks for your beach day.

Plage de Milady

Located on the south of Biarritz France this is a laid back beach with no facilities apart from a lifeguard.

It is worth a visit for its golden sands sitting beneath a parg and garden with beautiful vegetation.

Plage du Port-Vieux

This horseshoe shaped beach is located in the south side of the town of Biarritz framed by rocks and a great stretch of golden sands. You may reach it by foot from the plateau de l’Atalaye.

The beach is great for swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling and many other water sports including kayaking.

You may want to visit the nearby Musée de la Mer and enjoy tasty seafood at the picturesque Port des Pêcheurs.

Côte des Basques

This is a long stretch of sandy beach pounded by high waves making it ideal for surfing of all kinds. It is surrounded by hills covered with green lush vegetation.

Marbella Plage

This quiet beach is located in the south of Biarritz and features a large sandy stretch. There are no facilities but a lifeguard. Bring your food and drinks and enjoy this relaxed beach.

Biarritz France has been famous for centuries as a beach resort offering the best of the French Beaches. They keep it that way and keep inviting visitors from all over to enjoy its beauty and elegant style.
